Shanahan ready to serve on council

NORTH ATTLEBORO - When the town council holds their virtual meeting Tuesday night, a new member will be part of the board.

Andy Shanahan will be filling the seat held by Adam Scanlon since the council was formed in July of 2019. Scanlon, of course, will start serving as the town’s state representative in a few weeks and resigned from his council post after the board’s November 23 meeting.

The town charter calls for the position on the nine-member council to be filled by the person who finished 10th in the last election. That person was Michael Bedard, but he was unable to serve.

Shanahan was next in the balloting and had been serving on the planning board, a post he resigned recently, in order to join the council.

The 40-year old fire protection engineer and building consultant was interviewed by North TV on Thursday.I asked him how he found out he would be filling the vacancy.

Tuesday night’s virtual meeting of the town council will be cablecast live on North TV's Government Channel: Comcast channel 98 and Verizon channel 23 beginning at 7 p.m.

The meeting will also be streamed LIVE by clicking the link on the northtv.net home page.
