Poirier launches 'Supply Sacks" program for foster children

NORTH ATTLEBORO - State Representative Elizabeth "Betty" Poirier is once again helping area foster children prepare for the start of the new school year.

Poirier has spearheaded the “Supply Sacks” program for years, collecting clothing, school supplies and other basic necessities. The items are then placed in backpacks and distributed to every child newly entering the jurisdiction of the area's Department of Children and Family Office.

“Children are being wiped out of homes left and right due to abuse and neglect of all kinds. There are so many children in foster care now, they all need to feel some love and attention,” the veteran legislator told North TV.

“I’m hoping everyone will make an even greater effort this year to contribute and think about these poor kids.”

Poirier suggested donating items parents normally buy for their own children at this time of year.

Items and monetary donations are being collected at North Attleboro town hall. Bins for items only are located outside of the Attleboro YMCA.

“Supply Sacks” collections will run through September 18.
