NORTH ATTLEBORO - Falls Pond, after being closed for swimming in late June and then reopened shortly after, was closed again in mid-July and then reopened, closed again on July 22 and then reopened two days later, and for the forseeable future on Monday.
The Health Department announced this week the beach was prematurely opened to the public on July 24, following water testing that confirmed E. coli levels were within safe and normal limits
However, per state requirements, the pond had to be closed again as the geoman of its five most recent samples was too high
Health department officals are waiting for subsequent test results to determine if the geomean has lowered, allowing the pond to reopen for swimming.
E-coli and geomean levels at Whitings Pond are within normal levels and safe for swimming.
Anyone with questions or concerns is encouraged to contact the health department at 508-699-0100, ext. 2560.
