Four contested races on Plainville ballot

PLAINVILLE - Residents heading to the polls on the first Monday in April will see four contested races on the ballot.

Topping the card, as they say in boxing, is the race for one three-year seat on the select board. The three candidates are School Committee Chair Steven Albert, Housing Authority Board Member Andrew Daniel LaBerge and former Select Board Member Stanley Widak, Jr.

Christopher Desprz is running for re-election to the planning board; Robert Belcher is challenging him for that three-year seat.

The race for one three-year seat on the King Philip Regional School Committee has two candidates: Alex Kenney and Michele Sharpe.

The one three-year seat on the board of library trustees is also contested with incumbent Paula LaMontagne-Mealy facing off any Lily Quagliozzi.

Incumbent Charles Smith is running unopposed for the board of assessors, incumbent Robert Davis is looking to return to the board of health, Clark Valcovic is running for a five-year seat on the housing authority, incumbent Jason Morneau is running unopposed for the park commission, incumbent Jennifer Lynn Maloney Plante has no challengers for her seat on the Plainville school committee, and Town Clerk Cynthia Bush is running unopposed for another three-year term.

No one returned papers for a five-year seat on the redevelopment authority, although one candidate is running a write-in campaign.

Town Administrator Brian Noble and Select Board Chair Brian Kelly discussed the select board race during a recent recording of Kelly's "The Chairman's Report" and whether or not Albert could serve on the school committee and select board. The same goes for Widak, if he were to win, as he is also a member of the planning board.

That interview with Kelly and Noble can be seen in its entirety on North TV’s Plainville Channel: Comcast channel 8 and our Community Channel: Comcast channel 96 and Verizon channel 24 in North Attleboro and Comcast channel 6 in Plainville.
