Holcomb announces retirement

NORTH ATTLEBORO - The school committee will soon be looking for a new superintendent to lead the district for the 2021-22 school year and beyond.

Superintendent Scott Holcomb announced during a special meeting of the committee Tuesday night that he will be retiring this summer and taking a job in the private sector.

"After 25 years in education, I am retiring from education on my birthday, August 26, 2021." he told members.

He prefaced the announcement by sharing a story about a former student he had in class while he was teaching at Bellingham Junior-Senior High School. The former student is now a doctor at Massachusetts General Hospital and was part of a team that gave Holcomb's father a bone marrow transplant.

Holcomb explained that he shared the story to show the positives educators have on young lives and the impact that have on society.

He also shared the news that he and Town Manager Michael Borg were meeting with members of the Massachusetts School Building Authority about funding for a feasibility study for North Attleboro High School.

Tuesday meeting of the school committee can be seen in its entirety through Thursday on North TV’s Government Channel: Comcast channel 98 and Verizon channel 23.
