Plainville passes FY21 budget

PLAINVILLE - Plainville’s Annual Town Meeting was held Monday night (July 13) in the parking lot of King Philip High School and residents cast ballots from the front seat of their cars instead of folding chairs.

The drive-in-movie style meeting lasted nearly five hours and included contentious articles involving the budget and the water and sewer enterprise fund.

Article 12 called for approval of a $30.5 million budget for the fiscal year that began on July 1 and is expected to result in the loss of 38 school employees (16 of whom are teachers), six firefighters and five police officers.

As a result of the darkness, North TV's was unable to show all of the speakers during the live cablecast but audio of the residents's comment were still heard.
