NORTH ATTLEBORO - It’s apparent residents no longer follow the lead of the late Joseph Martin.
The former head of the U.S. House of Representatives was known as a conservative, as were the townspeople who elected him.
It would certainly be interesting to know how Martin would have responded to the results of Tuesday’s special election to approve funding of a $288 million high school.
The vote wasn’t even close with 3,981 residents (62%) voting yes and 2,449 (38%) voting no.
The 30-year bond approved on Tuesday will result in an increase of $970 in property taxes per year for the owner of a typical $569,820 home.
Turnout was good for the local election, but the 26% of registered voters still paled in comparison to a presidential election.
Local officials visited the North TV set after the results were known to discuss Tuesday’s vote and the next steps in building a new North Attleboro High School.
Watch the video below to see what they had to say.
North TV will be recording a special edition of “Inside Look” with Superintendent of Schools John Antonucci, Assistant Superintendent Michelle McKeon and NAHS Principal Peter Haviland to discuss the project in more detail.
It will premiere next Friday, June 14 on our Community and Education channels.
