NORTH ATTLEBORO - You can't blame town residents for wondering what the year 2020 will throw at them next.
First, it was COVID-19 and the restrictions put in place to combat the deadly disease. Now, it's the West Nile Virus and calls to avoid being outside after the sun goes down.
Health Agent, Erin Egan told North TV on Thursday that WNV was recently detected in North Attleboro.
A mosquito sample collected in North Attleboro August 21 tested positive for the virus according to the state's Department of Public Health.
Egan is urging residents not to panic, but to take precautions. She is advising people to follow protective guidelines to prevent the mosquito-borne virus. Preventive measures include: avoiding outdoor events between dusk and dawn; wearing long pants, long-sleeved shirts, shoes and socks when outdoors; and using an insect repellent.
She stressed that no active human cases of the virus have been reported and that residents should enjoy the rest of their summer while staying safe and protecting themselves from mosquitos.
