How would new Tri-County impact NAHS?

NORTH ATTLEBORO - Two of the schools serving the town's students are in the process of evaluating the costs of building a new high school or renovating and expanded their existing facilities.

The school committees representing North Attleboro and Tri-County have both received authorization from the Massachusetts School Building Committee to proceed.

The cost to build a new Tri-County will be as much as $300 million and reportedly only $25 million more than making changes to the existing building.

With North Attleboro making up approximately a third of the school’s enrollment, that would mean town residents would be responsible for paying upwards of $100 million for a new building.

Although the price tag is yet to be determined, a new NAHS might cost as much as Tri-County’s $300 million total.

Sun Chronicle columnist Mike Kirby and WARA radio’s Paul Healy discussed if North Attleboro residents can afford both during a recent recording of “Up for Discussion” in the North TV studio. Kirby specifically has issues with the current tax rate.

In addition to how residents can pay for the construction of two new schools, Sturdy’s Memorial Hospital’s $28 million loss last year, the possibility of another mask mandate, what to expect from new Governor Maura Healey, the election of House Speaker Kevin McCarthy and whether or not Joe Biden and Donald Trump should be prosecuted in light of classified documents found recently were the topics addressed.

“Up for Discussion: Winter Edition” can be seen this week on North TV's Community Channel: Comcast channel 15 and Verizon 24 in North Attleboro and Comcast channel 11 in Plainville.
