Proposed World Cup housing in Plainville pulled

PLAINVILLE - A proposal to provide temporary housIng for fans attending FIFA World Cup games at Gillette Stadium is apparently dead after the owners of Hatch Materials notified town officials that they were withdrawing their application.

The Route 1 landscaping business was proposed as a site for 191 recreational home-type units and a temporary soccer field near George Street.

Plainville planning and economic director TJ Torres told Sun Chronicle reporter Stephen Peterson, “I have been told verbally they no longer wish to proceed, but they have not yet officially withdrawn their application.”

Town Administrator Brian Noble told Peterson he fielded a call last week from Michael Levinson of Seekonk, the lawyer for business owner Jared Hatch, that the proposal was being withdrawn, “My understanding is that the decision was driven primarily by economic considerations. While I have not yet received formal written confirmation, I have no reason to doubt the accuracy of that information.”
