North eyesore eyed for affordable housing

NORTH ATTLEBORO - The town’s population may grow by a thousand or more residents before the end of the decade if proposed developments come to fruition.

Construction of more than 300 apartments is underway at the former Stix Fun Center off of Kelley Boulevard near the Plainville line.

That same developer appeared before the bylaw subcommittee last week with plans to build 336 apartments across from Shaw’s Plaza in the Falls section of town. The site on John Dietsch Boulevard once housed the Balfour Company, CVS corporate offices after Balfour relocated to Texas, and both Answer is Fitness and Waters Church.

Town councilors discussed a tax abatement for another development for the former mill building at 35 Robinson Ave. next to Dyer-Lake Funeral Home.

Town Manager Michael Borg detailed the request by developers during Monday night’s meeting of the town council.
