Chief warns of dangers generators pose if used incorrectly

PLAINVILLE - The area around West Bacon Street was hit hard by Tropical Storm Isiais Tuesday afternoon and residents were without power for 24 hours or more as a result.

The hum of generators could be heard in that section and small pockets of Plainville as residents tried to keep refrigerators and other appliances running until National Grid restored power.

Fire Chief Justin Alexander sympathizes with residents and understands the need for generators - he has one himself - but wants everyone to know the dangers they pose if used incorrectly.

He demonstrated for North TV on Friday how quickly carbon monoxide can reach dangerous levels.
