Alzheimer's and dementia walks planned for October

NORTH ATTLEBORO - It's no secret that COVID-19 has taken a heavy toll on nursing homes throughout the area.

What most people don't know, however, is that almost half of the people living in those residences suffer from a form of Alzheimer's or Dementia.

The guidelines that ban visitors and require patients to remain in their rooms and social distance have been especially difficult for patients who rely on daily routines and outings.

Organizations that raise funds for research and give support for families dealing with Alzheimer's and dementia have also been impacted.

Maggie DaSilva, a committee member for the Walk to End Alzheimer's in Fall River on October 3 and at Gillette Stadium on a date to be announced, spoke to North TV about the problems the coronavirus pandemic has created and the upcoming walks.
